I would recommend playing the game through once on your own and then with a spoiler free guide, since the amount of choice and variation in the routes can be *VERY* overwhelming, and in order to experience the true ending, a lot of requirements must be met.Īlso sorry if my review is all over the place, but i'm just trying my best to convey why i think this game was such a lifechanging experience.Print and download in PDF or MIDI Dango Daikazoku. The game is infamous for making people cry and I certainly did that a lot, and in one of the routes, the main characters feelings and hopelessness about a given scenario resonated so hard with me i had a minor existensial crisis.Ĭlannad was an exeptional experience, and having just finished the entire story i'm amazed with how well crafted the experience is. Through various difficult interpersonal scenarios you manage to create som really close bonds with the other characters and help them find happiness, all the while getting pulled through the emotional wringer yourself. The many different routes focus on individual characters, their relationship with the main character and how the two affect one another. The happy bits are very impactful because of the sad bits, and likewise the sad bits really hit hard because of the happiness that came prior, although it always ends on a happy note. This game tells such a compelling, engaging and exceptional story, with so many different emotional moments, both tragic and sad, but also cheerful and happy. Please, if you are feeling hopeless like nothing matters, just as a last ditch effort, hear out what Clannad has to say. This ability to relate allowed me to open myself up to what is has to say, which is a powerful thing for a piece of media to do for someone who has faced an emotional death. However, it relates to the cynical depressive mindset that cannot hear advice from the seemingly carefree, non depressed world. I cannot say this game will cure your depression, because at the end of the day, that requires work from you. The first time it helped me help myself through depression was middle school, but it also gave me a much needed reminder in high school and very recently as an adult.

This realization gave me the courage to try and meet people, even though it was terrifying to me.Īnd, well, this was not a one time thing for me. There will be new people to meet in the future, that is true, but by closing myself off from the world I was missing out on the people who were already there. Most of them are going to move on and you are never going to see them again, so time is precious. This is depicted in the multiple routes that mostly take place in the limited time period that is the end of high school, where if you don't meet people, that's probably it. The first time I played through when I was on the verge of suicide, I realized something I could not see before: There are infinite people around to meet and engage with, to laugh with and explore the world with, and there literally is not enough time to befriend everyone worth befriending. This allows me to connect my mindset to an actual accurate depiction of it and actually engage with the story. Clannad really accurately reflects the mindset of depression in the protagonist, Tomoya, though. It sounds like a lullaby i nearly eango asleep while making this Choose where you want to share: This is off of the first ending of the anime Clannad and it’s tempo is set for that speed as well, however I like to play it.
